Tuesday 8/19/2005: Pedro J. Martinez quiets San Francisco bats with shutout
SAN FRANCISCO - Pedro J. Martinez took the mound and never left. And San Francisco hitters couldn't touch him at all. St. Louis' right-hander gave up just one hit in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 36 career shutouts in 504 games started. Martinez (13-11) fanned 9 and walked 3, throwing 128 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Marcus Giles helped Martinez at the plate, he finished 2 for 2, hitting two dingers, scoring two runs and driving in 3 runs. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Monday 8/18/2005: Minnesota's Wickman out for 5 weeks
MINNESOTA - When it rains, it pours. Minnesota's right-hander Bob Wickman will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Texas where he left the field in the 9th inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Bicep Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Opposing players hit .171 against Bob this season. While posting an ERA of 1.54 he went 4-3 in 0 starts, fanning 30 and walking 9 hitters.
Monday 8/18/2005: Ivan Rodriguez ropes 2000th career hit
ANAHEIM - Ivan Rodriguez got a standing ovation from 23418 fans in Anaheim, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. In 13 years of big league action so far, Ivan has compiled a batting average of .261, along with 209 homeruns and 989 RBI. 'I still remember my first hit. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep that ball!' He hit a double in the 6th off Josh Hancock for number 2000.
Monday 8/18/2005: Anaheim's Serafini severely injured
ANAHEIM - Anaheim's lefty Dan Serafini will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Oakland on Monday. Ruptured Disc Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. His ERA of 6.65 helped him to a 6-17 record this year. He struck out 142 and walked 68 in 163.2 innings.

The American League Player of the Week award goes to Carlos Delgado, Carlos was on fire, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now. It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to In 30 at bats he hit .467 with 4 HR and 17 RBI.
Sunday 8/17/2005: Nomar Garciaparra collects seven hits against Houston
HOUSTON - Nomar Garciaparra hits 'em where they ain't. Houston certainly agrees as Chicago (N)'s shortstop unloaded seven hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 1st hit, off Rheal Cormier in the 1st inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in center field. His 5th cleared the based, a three-run double off Chad Ogea in the 7th inning. His 6th hit, a solo homerun off Chad Ogea in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. He had singles in the 2nd inning (one RBI) , in the 3rd (one RBI) , in the 5th inning and in the 9th inning . Nomar did drive in 8 while scoring 4 runs on his own. His 7 hit performance increases his batting average to .293. Chicago (N) scored 32 runs on 31 hits.
