Monday 9/8/2005: Player of the Week honors go to Walker and Nakamura
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Larry Walker, Anaheim's starting designated hitter. Larry was on fire, hitting .536 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was Pittsburgh's Norihiro Nakamura, who wins the award for the 8th time in his career. Norihiro pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .455 with 4 HR and 16 RBI while slugging .909.

NEW YORK (N) - Pittsburgh's third baseman Norihiro Nakamura was in good mood after the game against New York (N), and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 11th inning was a double off Bill Simas. His best year so far was 2004 where he hit .331 with 26 homeruns and 130 RBI. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.'

NEW YORK (N) - Norihiro Nakamura is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Number 1 in the 3rd inning accounted for a double. A double off Micheal Nakamura in the 7th inning accounted for his 4th hit. His 5th hit, a solo homerun off Valerio De Los Santos in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 400 feet from home plate. He had singles in the 4th inning (two RBIs) and in the 6th inning . Norihiro did drive in 3 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He is hitting .272 this season, with 22 HR and 97 RBI. The final score of the game was 20-2.

CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s second baseman Mike Lowell hurt himself in the 3rd inning while making a routine throw to first base. He experienced serious pain and had to leave the game. Mike Lowell will miss at least 5 weeks. Chicago (N) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Lowell had suffered a Ruptured Tricep Tendon. His season numbers are: .233 AVG, 113 hits, 41 doubles, no triples and 16 homeruns, along with 62 RBI and 61 runs scored.
