Wednesday 9/17/2005: Arthur Rhodes out for 5 weeks
ATLANTA - Atlanta is without its left-hander Arthur Rhodes for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Mo Vaughn in a game against Houston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Rhodes was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Tricep Tendon. In 21 starts this year Arthur struck out 114 batters in 156.1 innings of work. His ERA is 3.80, his record 9-8. He has 6 complete games and 2 shutouts.
Tuesday 9/16/2005: Texas' Kiyohara out for 6 weeks
TEXAS - Texas' season took a blow when Kazuhiro Kiyohara suffered a serious injury in the game against Anaheim. He hurt his arm throwing a strike to first base. Kiyohara will probaby miss 6 weeks. Texas wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Kiyohara had suffered a Strained Tricep Muscle. Kiyohara has hit 27 longballs this year while batting .315. He adds 24 doubles, along with 74 runs scored. He's 6th in the American League in batting and 8th in RBI!
Monday 9/15/2005: Chicago (N)'s Nomar Garciaparra laces 2000th career hit
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s shortstop Nomar Garciaparra already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Nomar collected 256 homeruns and 977 RBI in 10 seasons. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' He hit a single in the 5th off Kazuhisa Ishii for number 2000.
Monday 9/15/2005: Anderson (ANA) and Gonzalez (PHI) win P.O.W. award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Garret Anderson, Anaheim's starting centerfielder. Garret went 12 for 24 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 13 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Anderson has hit 26 homeruns this year while batting .303. He adds 42 doubles, along with 77 runs scored. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Alex S. Gonzalez, Philadelphia's starting third baseman. In 23 at bats he hit .478 with 4 HR and 6 RBI.
