Tuesday 9/23/2005: Randy Tomlin quiets St. Louis bats with shutout
PHILADELPHIA - Age doesn't matter. At least Philadelphia's lefty Randy Tomlin shares this opinion. The 39 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against St. Louis, recording his 1st shutout of the season. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Tomlin (2-1) fanned 2 and walked 1, throwing 98 pitches. Mark Loretta helped Tomlin at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, scoring 2 runs with 2 RBI. Philadelphia scored 5 runs on 11 hits.
Monday 9/22/2005: Los Angeles' Tateyama wins Player of the Week award
Texas' centerfielder Darin Erstad had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .514 and hit .469, while driving in 9 runs. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Yoshinori Tateyama, one of Los Angeles' best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.04 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. His ERA of 3.20 helped him to a 19-11 record this year. He struck out 320 and walked 36 in 298.1 innings. Yoshinori has pitched 2 shutouts and 5 complete games. He's 8th in the National League in wins!
